Blocked Ears Wax Microsuction

• A feeling of fullness, blocked sensation, or pressure build-up in the ear.
• Feeling like you are not hearing as well as you do normally.
• Aches or pain in or around the ear?
• Itchiness of the ear canal .
• Hearing clicking/popping/ticking sounds in the ear
• Difficulty popping the ear or having an urge to pop the ear
• A feeling of fluid moving in the ear
• Ear discharge
• Excessive earwax build up
• Dizziness/Vertigo\Sudden change in hearing
• Sudden spike in tinnitus
• A general concern about your ear health
• Balance issues

Following are the steps that we follow during the appointment:

Videoscopy: to assess the condition of your ear canals and tympanic membranes.

Ear wax microsuction: If the ear canals are blocked with ear wax micro suctioning would be done , provided the ear wax is not hard & impacted. If the ear wax is hard and impacted, you will need to use ear wax drops for 5 days and then return for safe suctioning of the ear wax.

After ear wax suctioning we would examine your ear canals once again to assess for signs of an outer ear infection. A GP letter will be done if any signs of outer ear infections are found so that you can get appropriate medical treatment by your GP for the infection.

If your symptoms cannot be explained by the above or be resolved by micro suctioning, then we will assess your middle ear which gives us information about fluid build up behind the ear drum, blockage of the tube that connects the ears to the nose, any abnormalities in the mobility of the bones in the middle ear, middle ear congestion. Appropriate referral or treatment may be recommended based on the results from the middle ear assessment and outer ear examination.
